It has been quite awhile since I had the time to write about something I feel so deeply about. So from now on, I'm making it my mission to blog about such topics on a weekly basis - whenever I can.
I was watching random videos on youtube when I discovered a video by Finn Harries about mental illnesses where he discussed how real and inevitable it is.
In an online article that I read, one in every six Singaporeans suffer from a mental illness and despite the medical advances in recent years, you can hardly treat it.
Mental illnesses comes in all forms and I believe that there will come a point of time in your life when it's gonna bring you to your lowest and the thing that makes it worse is the stigma that is being attached with it.
I'd be lying if I were to tell you that I have not been struck by anxiety and depression before. It was not only disrupting my sleep, appetite etc, but panic attacks were occurring a little more often at the time. It took me awhile to finally be able to confide about my problems to the people closest to me and all of them have suggested for me to visit a general practitioner - which I have yet to do.
Now, I'm not here to talk about how one should cope with it because I too am struggling with such issues and I believe that there are many other qualified specialists who can help you with that. But I know that it starts with talking to someone and let me just say, you'll be amazed by how much a listening ear can help.
To end of this post, I urge you to let go of that mainstream stigma because believe it or not, you're not the only one feeling alone in this world.
xoxo, Artika.
