Truth About Breakups

Monday 18 July 2016

I saw this post on twitter one day which made me inspired to blog about this:

Soulmate
(n.) Someone who is aligned with your soul and is sent to challenge, awaken and stir different parts of you in order for your soul to transcend to a higher level of consciousness and awareness. Once a lesson has been learnt, physical separation usually occurs.
 Life Partner
(n.) A companion, a friend, a stable and secure individual who you can lean on, trust and depend on to help you through life. There is a mutual feeling of love and respect and you are both in sync with each other's needs and wants.

I shall spare you the drama and not talk about my break up, but it has roughly been five months - five really long months - and let me just say that it has not been easy.

For the past five months, I have drowned myself in self-empowering chick flicks and short dramas in a hope that I would be over it. I can't even begin to comprehend how unpleasant the healing process is.

You surround yourself with friends and family but hey, the world doesn't revolve around you and at the end of the day, you're all you've got. You take the advice of other's to meet new people and when you eventually do, you just miss the familiarity of your former significant other. All your future plans gets haywire and no matter how many people you surround yourself with, you still feel so alone.

I can't help but miss it. The attention, the companionship and most importantly, the memories.

Unfortunately, life goes on whether you like it or not. And I know that everything will turn out okay in the end.

If you're going through a break up, I am here to tell you that it will get better. I can't promise if it will be tomorrow or a few days or months from now, but  they always say: To get to the rainbow, you got to first deal with the rain. Know that you deserve to be happy and believe me when I say that in time, the storm will pass. But for now, cry as much as you want and take all the time you need. We are all only human and the least we could do is grieve no matter how much you think that you don't deserve to be hurt like this.

And most crucially, remember to love yourself Xx
